What is Beginner Pilates?

Learning the Foundational movements of the pilates will help everyone and every body. As having 'proper core' or the "power house' will help you feel stronger and able to move and feel better. It will also help prevent musculoskeletal injuries or help aid in recovery. It is the key ingredient to living a more confident life as you will have confidence in your body.

We focus on the fundamental movements of what most pilates practitioners will call 'The Hundred'. Joseph Pilates introduced the hundred as the first exercise of the matwork series in his book "Return to Life Through Contrology.". This is what you would call the foundational move, as through this you will learn to 'brace' your core properly, ensuring all other subsequent pilates moves will be done appropriately. It will also ensure your other work outs are more effective as the more you do this, the more it will activate and stabilise your spine even through daily living.

What makes the difference between this Core Activation and your typical Sit-Ups and Leg Raiser type exercises?

The problem with traditional Ab type exercises is that it does not activate the true core strength essential for stabilising your spine. Most likely those types of exercises actually irritate your spine and are causing your lower back pain, unless you have properly conditioned and have progressively trained. This is where 'True Core' activation comes in, or what you can call your 'Intrinsic Stabilising Subsystem'. It Ensures segmental stability of your spine. Think about it as if your are relieving pressure from your spine. Whereas Sit-Up type exercises compress your spine.

How does this help Lower Back Pain?

As mentioned above it helps to activate your true core muscles. There have been studies done with those that have no lower back pain, and those with lower back pain. What they found was those with lower back pain it was the external muscles that switched on first. Those without lower back pain, the internal muscles switched on first. This Demonstrates the neccesity for ensuring your Internal muscles switch on first, ensuring stabilisation throughout your spine.

So if your interested you can book in to be trained how to practice 'The Hundred'. If your already doing pilates as part of a class or online, this will be a great addition to ensure your making the most of your classes. If your experiencing back pain then this will likely be part of your rehabilitation with us.
